Impact Polk competitive grant cycle and is supported through the Marlene Duffy Young Memorial Fund within the GiveWell Community Foundation. The grant supported “Building Awareness in Children with Complex Communication.” Our Children’s has been able to purchase supplies that support the Picture Exchange Communication System as well as being able to bring our children out into the community to build confidence in using PECS as a way to be able to communicate.29

Our Community

Our Children’s of Winter Haven serves a range of students from ages 5 and up in the grades of Kindergarten through Tenth grade. Students are served by a diverse staff, consisting of professionals of a wide range of ages, ethnicities, and talents. Our staff are experts in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, and Behavior Analysis. We also feature Certified ESE Teachers, Mental Health Counseling, trained Paraprofessionals, and Professional Crisis Management Practitioners. Staff members are expected to model core value behaviors that set an example to our students. We use a therapeutic approach of positive behavior management, which requires the collaborative involvement of the parents, community, and school.
